Donner and Dasher visit the village


"Donner," called Dasher, "wait for me!" Donner, who was so eager he had gotten ahead of Dasher, turned to wait for Dasher to catch-up. "Maybe we should wait until it gets dark, when every one has gone home for the night.“ Said one to the other. “We would not be seen and it would be safer for us." Donner and Dasher thought about what the rabbit and the fox said.
"Yes, it will be much safer after dark." They waited until dark and then slowly and cautiously walked down into the village. All the stores were closed and locked-up for the night. Even the houses were dark. Dasher kept close to Donner. They remembered what their friends told them about the village. Both Dasher and Donner were very alert, listening and looking in every direction as they quietly walked through the little village.
